I realize that I combine watching my tank with some of my other hobbies - namely, sitting around plucking away on an acoustic guitar. I have an old Yamaha and an old Norman (now Seagull) that I happily pluck away on while watching my main tank.

Do you guys just sit and watch? Or do you do something else at the same time? Or is it a maintenance only thing?

I almost always spend time in front of each tank daily when I am feeding. It's a good time to observe behaviors that confirm the health & vitality of my fish, or reveal potential issues that need to be addressed. This is especially true of my tropheus tanks
When my wife is at work or out, I'll sit, read & nap in front of the big tank. If she wants a foot rub at the end of the day, my trade off is to do that on the couch by the big tank in the basement :WHOA:

I enjoy sitting in front of my tanks when I want to check my email and/or do some reading. Most days I will spend about an hour doing that, in addition to a couple trips downstairs to do some feeding or minor maintenance. Once a week I like to do all my water changes on the same day and I will spend several hours doing that...but that's mostly just sitting and watching the fish, water changing is done entirely by opening and closing valves.

In the winter, if my wife is out for the day, and if I am not involved in some ridiculous time-wasting project, I can easily sit down there for hours. Not so much during the warm months, but still an hour or so per day. My dog has one of his beds....more like a lounge...in that room and he loves supervising me when I'm down there; he's a good listener. I've got some toys'n'tools related to other hobbies in that room as well, plus a beer fridge, an easy chair, a reading lamp, a desk, some tunes...life is good. :)

Every morning my wife and I have a coffee with my back tank (450) while we feed. Usually about 30 minutes. Some times I go back there again and sip a whisky and just watch them. Two to three times a week, at the most, in the evenings every week.

The front tank (1100) is in my “man cave” or hobby room. I’m in there daily doing something. There’s a 4x8 board gaming table, a G gauge ceiling train and slot cars, Star Wars, and other toys.
I’m the big guy, front left.

I did a thread years ago asking where people keep their tanks. One of my favorite threads.
We have one in the bedroom and one in the living room so our fish get to look at us all thru the day.
Waiting for food 😁

My 3 running tanks are in the living room, when im sitting behind the pc all in gotta do is take a peek to the left and its all there.

When i wake up i turn on some of the lights, after a couple hours ill feed my fish and hang out in front of the aquarium to check on everything like behaviour and water parameters.

Ive thought about moving one of the tanks into my bedroom but honestly like my setup too much to change it at the moment
