Im new to the hobby and i was about to do a water change and I think i read somewhere that you should not add straight tap water to the tank because it has chlorine and it will kill all the good bacteria. Is this true? or can i put tap water then like stress coat in it.

If you can its best to declorinate the water first befor it goes to the tank, but if you add your declorinator to the tank and then add water right into it thats ok too. jsut make sure the tempature is close on, and that the pH change isnt going ot be drastic either. I wouldnt worry about thr bacteria because your only changing a small percentage of the water, and from what iv herd its pretty resiliant, aslong as its not a huge change in chemestry or tempature. if you want to be extra safe jsut tunr ur filter off wile you add the new water. declorninater works basicly instently anyway.

Seachem advise dosing Prime, their dechlorinator after you've replaced the water. Chlorine and Chloramine's will do damage to your fish but not instantly.

I fill my tank with tapwater, and when thats done I dose my dechlorinator appropriately the most agitated area of my tank. Haven't had a single problem.

When doing water changes i usually fill atleast half the amount dosage, of water conditioner, as i need before i add new water. Add the rest when tank is back to full.
