When fish breed does it stunt there growth???

Very interesting topic! And I apologize ahead of time for butting in and going slightly "off" topic, but I've been wondering for awhile, is there a solution or a way to reverse the effects of "true" stunted fish growth?

So I should expect the male's growth to be slowed as well? Is this just a slowing, or will they also not grow as large (specifically the male - the one I was looking to keep - I wasn't trying to breed they just surprised me by starting so early. I actually just bought a few GTs figuring I'd get one colorful male and return the others). Do I need to get them separated now? Also, I've never separated a pair after breeding, is it a bad idea? Do they freak out or anything? Will they get frustrated and take it out on tank mates?

From the link that I posted on page 1.

Egg production requires energy, energy that beyond normal metabolic functions would typically go towards growth. Males are not as greatly affected by spawning as sperm production requires less energy than egg production.

Then factor in that spawning females often feed less, some far less, than when not spawning (as can males) and the slower overall growth part of the equation should become rather obvious. Less energy intake via feed, more energy going to egg production vs growth = slower overall growth.

Glad I asked I really don't want to breed my dovii with that said! But does that go for if there constantly breeding or after breeding once there's an effect?

well i agree that it does not stunt thier growth but does slow it down for instance in Florida there is a thriving population of peacock bass that were stocked in canals to control the breeding population of talapia while the talapia that don't concentrate spawning get bigger faster

with my male jaguar cichlid, before i seperated him and his female he was growing extremly slow he stayed pretty much 8inches for an entire year, i got bored of breeding my jags so i decided to move him in with me 7inch dovii, 6inch red devil, and 10inch buttakofri and he seems to be way more active than when he was breeding
