as cool as it seems, the above posters are right. The salt water fish are enduring extreme stress to maintain homeostasis, and as a result are excreting tons of waste into the water. This in turn will have a negative effect on your freshwater fish, who will be exposed to high levels of toxic ammonia.

or choose bony marine fish that can live in SG's as low as 1.012 sg, but keep them in 1.018. your fish are surviving in fresh water, there is a diffence between the two. i wouldnt suggest keeping bumble bee gobies in full fresh, and they need 1.005, almost fresh, never mind marine fish....

keep marine fish as marines, brackish fish as brackish, and fresh water fish as fresh water.

if you want a grouper for FW, get a bumblebee grouper. dont risk killing fish most of us can even afford.

id seriously rethink your stocking. it will be cheaper, less stressful, and better for the fish.

Like everyone has said above me, this is not a good idea. These fish have evolved to live in these specific conditions over millions of years, they aren't going to just readjust in a few months. Their individual bodies are carefully designed to make the most of very specific water parameters and it is cruelty to force them to live in an environment that they aren't suited to. Just because they are living, doesn't mean that they are healthy or thriving. You're putting the lives and wellbeing of animals that only have you to rely on at risk for the novelty factor. I suggest you do the right thing and home your fish in tanks that suit their biological needs.

Interesting... very interesting. I'm curious what your reasoning was for doing this? Can't imagine this being beneficial to the fish's health at all, honestly I'm surprised all those fish are alive...

Man, i cant imagine the torture those SW fish are feeling. I have seen some SW eels put in fresh, and they basically take a year or so to die, never really living, just surviving the environment. Ugh.

Yeah, because they're stunted from excess toxins in the water from trying to maintain homeostasis. :irked:
