Hello, just wondering how long you have had your tanks? I have had my 75 gallon freshwater on the stand that came with it for 13 years now. We have to move it to it's permanent location (we had to move it because of repairs that needed to be done to the floor) but we are wondering if we should look into replacing the tank and stand. Is 13 years old considered old? The tank is in great working condition and does not show any signs of leaking, all seems stable. What have been your experiences for tank age? Thank you!

I still have my first Oceanic tank running, I bought it new in 1994 when I was 20 years old and it was my first 6ft tank. At that time it felt like the largest aquarium ever as most friends that I knew who had aquariums were 29g’s or the occasional 55g.

Hello; I had a 20 gallon long purchased around 1960. The sort with a painted angle iron frame and some sort of tar as a sealant. The frame rusted away over time. By then I had learned of silicone, so I used silicone to glue the glass and removed the rusted frame. Cracked a side or two of glass over time but patched it.
I dismantled that tank maybe three years ago, lets say 2021. I still have the slate bottom and some of the glass. However it is not a tank any longer. Old fish tank.jpg

I bought my glass 75g tank in 1997 or 1998. It's still with me. Move it from one room to another, then moved 30 miles away and have moved it around 2-3 times around the house. Hasn't leaked, still have it on the original stand I bought with it as well.

Thank you for all your posts, unfortunately my tank failed early this morning. I had a bad feeling all week, hence why I posted the question. What helped is we had put water detectors and these alerted us to the leak. This allowed us to fill a spare 10 gallon and transfer the fish and empty the tank, minimizing the damage. Unfortunately we had to give our fish to our LFS as they would not have survived long in the 10 gallon given their size. We are grateful that we were home and able to act quickly. In retrospect I wish I had checked under the tank as I had done a water change 2 days before. Maybe I would have seen a small drip, maybe not. We have not decided if we will get a tank again. Thank you again.

I’m sorry to hear that. What failed if you don’t mind me asking? Any pictures? Your post on Thursday mentioned the tank was in great working shape and no visual signs of leaking and then boom 48hrs it failed.
