I had similar issues with my male marble. He wouldn't eat anything but earth worms. Don't know why, but eventually he just started to sample other things and now eats just about everything. It took months though to get him there. I would give him earth worms daily and ten skip a day and try something else. Eventually he caved.

I'm not sure if my rays will eat earthworms.. They only eat blackworms right now

Most rays are nuts for earthworms! It's worth a shot. Just use smaller worms or chop them up. If they get used to them they slurp them up like a spaghetti noodle! I would think worms are one of the easiest things to get them to eat.

If I can get them on red wiggles that be great. If they eat them I'll start stuffing pellets Into the cut pices of worm

You should completely forget about pellets for now. It doesn't sound like they are out of the woods yet. I haven't heard your trying raw market shrimp, tilapia fillets, or smelt all chopped into small bites.

I have tried tilapia, frozen krill, silversides, and squid. It ignored all except the squid. But couldn't eat the squid. I think it's too chewy. I also tried red wiggles, same issue. Chewed it then spat it out.. Bloodworms it eats seldomly and craves blackworms

Since your ray seems young, feed it a ton to grow it and put on some weight. It could take some time to pellet train your ray. Some rays get right on them and others are stubborn and take a long time to finally accept them. In my experience, if a ray will bite and chew on something anevntually spits it out, you are making progress. I would bet that your ray will eat the red wigglers soon. Keep trying to feed them the wigglers, it will swallow them soon and they are also high in protein so it will help your ray put on some size and weight.

+1

I really don't understand this pellet craze. Oh so we want to go as organic as possible, but that goes out the table for (arguably) convenience for our pets? We couldn't live on supplements alone even if they gave us all the vitamins and minerals we need, and if we could what kind of a life is that? I for one enjoy my food, variety is the spice of life, I like to throw in different things and see what my rays like and dont like. 1/3 like tilapia, rest dont so I don't feed it. Try telling a kid to eat spinach everyday cuz its healthy for it, your ray has a personality too, I for one believe they dont only live to nourish themselves. But maybe pellets taste good too, idk.

Thanks for your opinion, I'll take that in mid, after I finish pellet training it.

Should I stop buying live blackworms and just straight starve on red wiggles now?

If it is eating black worms aggressively then keep feeding it to him but keep trying the feed the red wigglers daily. Chop them up so it can get a piece entirely in its mouth. If the ray chews on it then you are well on your way to having it start to aggressively eat the wigglers. Rays have a very high metabolism so you need to keep your young ray very well fed. Cut back slightly on the black worms each day while adding the red worms and I think he will start to take them. Once he is eating the red worms aggressively, let him put on some size and weight and keep trying to incorporate other foods, such as tilapia, shrimp, smelt. Once he is eating all these foods aggressively then try to get him on pellets.
