When to change your heater????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My Fluval M for the 30 has been running over a year w/o problems and w/o a controller. Seems to be a very dependable heater to me, plus i like the borosilicate glass that encases it, some of my younger polys have liked to chill between the heater and the wall and im sure the glass helped even out heat to avoid damaging the fish

I've had heaters that have lasted for years and don't think you should worry about it only being a yr old. With that being said if your having any types of problems replace it ASAP I've had one go bad on me once. I went to check something in my tank and it felt like a hot tub...lol. Luckily I didn't loose any fish

I run dual heaters, and both of them are around a decade or so old. If one fails (turning off) then i have another to help keep the tank warm until i do my regular check. If one fails and kicks on, then I have a problem since I havent bought a controller yet. Long story short, redundancy is always good, and controllers are also always good, then just wait for things to fail before replacing
