Sucks that he didn't make it. You have one nasty TSN on your hands.

You know, I don't hold it against her at all. She is what she is supposed to be. I took her out of her natural habitat (sort of as she was another rescue) and would be foolish to expect her to be anything different. She doesn't do it out of malice or hate, nor does she even do it out of territorial aggression. She merely is programmed to hunt and eat, and so she does. Do I think her choice of food was a little off, yeah. Do I wish she hadn't done this, yes. Do I still walk by the tank and not view her any differently, yes (except that now I tell her she was a bad fishies with a little bit of a baby talk tone in my voice.) I know and understand the nature of the animals I brought home. Being angry with her would only be a lack of true understanding of these predators.

:( Hey.. sorry bout your loss.. you did everything you could and your ID had one heck of a fight left in him.. tc.

ps. makes me wonder if i should get a TSN now? I jus got an RTC.. dont want them eating up my aros when they become nearly as big as them..

My cats will fold up anything they can and suck it down. If it fits, its at risk. Just be very aware the length is not the determining factor on what gets eaten. RTC's are JUST as guilty as TSNs.

I understand whaty you're saying here. I just meant it was "nasty" for taking on such a huge prey. I know that a TSN is predatory. I just meant yours was nasty beacause it tried to eat something that was about the same size. No tank mate is truely safe with a TSN and yours just proved that.

That's such a bummer. Good for you for trying so hard though. Hopefully your TSN won't get a hold of anyone else. What else do you have in with her if you don't mind me asking?

I guess I just usually reserve that word for humans who do stuff just to harm and torture others for the fun of it, and do it will the understanding of what that other person is feeling. So given how I define that word, I cannot assign it to a fish who is just looking for a meal.

She has been in with a whole group of fish just fine for long time, but things are getting shuffled now. I move my pbass out, and my gold knife is next. The knife is quite good sized and the TSN has not shown an ounce of interest in it. However, when I get back from my weekend trip, the knife will get moved into the pond with the pbass. The Other tank mates are 2 large niger cats, 1 small niger cat and 1 irwini. None of whom I'm remotely worried about with their armour. I also have a large giraffe cat who's a total punk and harasses all the other catfish except the spiky ones. Then I have a 'smaller' TSN probably 24+" and a 27+" RTCxTSN. Measurements are really hard to estimate in there. I will continue to watch carefully for any problems, but once the knife is removed, I don't think she will be able to squeeze anyone else in her mouth.... (knocking on wood).

I just got through reading this whole thread, sorry for your loss. But you're a good person for trying so hard to help him :]

When I take on fish, I really believe that it is my responsiblity to give them the best of what I can, and do not take on things that I can't really take care of. I would never have left the ID in the tank if I though there was any chance she would have tried that.
