Hi guys,
I picked up a couple of oscars two weeks ago as I found them for a great deal, 20cm and 25cm, and i was wondering when it could add them to my girlfriends 300g community, without too much fear of them eating the other fish (or when i could add the smaller one?).

Most of the fish currently in there are about 10cm in length, except for a few convicts (but not too worried about them, nothing gets near the convicts :P)
Im most concerened about a 10cm common pleco, whose girth is about the same as the smaller oscars mouth.

The oscars are currently in a 4x18"x18" and as such, id prefer to move them as soon as possible, but ill keep them in there as long as need be.

Thanks for any advice.

There’s a 90% chance they won’t bother the pleco no promises though.

As far as everything else; the general Oscar rules apply, if it will fit in their mouth, they'll probably eat it.

One thing Ive learned since Ive been keeping large aggressive SA/CA Cichlids is, you need more than one running tank to really successfully keep them... You never know whats going to happen in your primary aquarium untill you try it!!! For example, Im about to try a Dovii with my Red Devil and Electric Blue Jack Dempsey. It might work, It might not, but if it dosnt I have another large empty tank running!!!

not to sure about the oscar question, but i, just currious as to where you found a gf with a tank that big and was she the only one?? it would be nice to find a good girl round me that had something like that, or wasnt turning her nose up at me for my tank collection lol.. anyway, good luck with your oscars..

Oh she didnt have the tank til i met her ;)
I get the joy of the tank, she gets the bill!
Ill try the 20cm oscar in there for a week or two, observe, then if all good, add the other one :)

I would personally hold off for a couple weeks just as a normal quarantine period. Then do your experiment. Don't want to wreck a 300g community because you missed something.

Dovii and a Red Devil!!!!!!!!!!!!WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Knowing the only possibility of these two species ever co-existing in harmony in on etank, is that they are grown together since a small-small size...............

As far as dumping those oscars inside that 300, do it........The Oscars will thrive in such a large tank.....My uncle grew a pair in a 300g.............Actually come to think of it, I beleive it was a trio(early 90's)...............Well anyways, the sooner you put those two brutes inside the 300g, the sooner they become happy and start growing.....Remember to feed the fish a variety of dry and frozen foods..........Krill, mealworms, and crickets.....The staple diet should be a color enhancing pellet, such as HIKARI.............
