So when do you guys start trying to feed your baby aro's pellets?

My first black, I got 4-5 years ago I started when he was about 3 inches, gave him NLS, and he is now around 22-23 inches and still eats pellets.

Any concerns with feeding them pellets at a small size?

id feed it to them as soon as i think they can fit them in their mouth ...try crushing the pellets

Thank you.

Start the day you bring them home from the shop.

Thank you.

Anyone know of complications with feeding aro's pellets at a young/small age?

The pellets may be to hard for the young aros too swallow. I have 4 baby blacks, mainly they eat freeze dried blood worms, but I always offer a crushed pellet at each feeding. One aro eats the crushed pellets, so I got some mini pellets but none of the aros will eat them. So just figure on offering, eventually they will accept the pellets but you may need to remove the uneaten until they do.

I have fed my Aro pellets from the very beginning it was about 3 inches. I crushed the pellets so they would fit in it's mouth and have an irregular shape to make it easier to swallow. I believe in feeding pellets from the get go.

i can't still figure out how to feed mine....very choosy when it comes to food.

Thanks for the insight. I had 4 baby blacks but one was killed so I have them separated. I feed freeze dried blood worms the last week or so and tried hikari gold mini pellets and they took it. I'm thinking of feeding both freeze dried blood worms and the mini pellets. Eventually get them on freeze dried krill and biogold, then market shrimp and cihlid gold when they are big enough.

Thanks. Pellets are alot more convenient to feed.

If they take food from the surface, it should be pretty easy to get them to eat pellets. I've got all three to take the mini hikari gold. What pellet have you tried?

I'd rather gut load superworms with pellets and carrots and then feed to the aro. I don't trust pellets with small aros.

edit: I just re-thought my post, lol. sw only to aros 6-7" and up. Anything much, smaller I'd do bloodworms and chopped shrimp. :)
