If they're kept with nothing else, and the tank is well filtered, at what point does a pair of Tiger Oscars need to be moved out of a 75 gallon tank into something larger? I know that bigger is always better, but at what size of fish is a 75 gallon tank actually detrimental or harmful to the fish?

You could probably keep them in there for life,as long as they don't kill each other.Overfiltration would be an understatement. And I would think 50% water changes twice a week would be the minimum. But I don't see why if you are willing to keep up on the water changes, and spend the money on the filtration, why it could not be done long term.

i would NOT keep 2 Os in 75g for life, maybe one but def not 2, i would move them into a bigger tank once they both reached about 8-9in, i dont know about you but 50% water changes would just be way to much maintenance for me, also i think once they reach this size a 75g is no longer big enough for each of them to stake out a territory and be happy, would move them sooner if they are showing aggression towards each other as this is clear sign they dont have enough personal space, there is a little wiggle room but as soon as they start fighting or your water parameters arent staying low enough between water changes its time for a bigger tank

GOOD LUCK Os are awesome!

You could probably find a good deal on a nice 135g tank. That should hold them for life.

Really? A 50% water change on a 75 gallon is only 37.5 gallons....which is nothing IMO. I'm doing a 70% water change on a 265g weekly, plus a 50% w.c. on four other tanks. The trick is to get a thicker diameter hose for ultra-quick syphoning.

yeah i actually do 50% changes (the python saved my LIFE lol), i meant to put 50% twice weekly like fish bum was saying to do in order to keep them in there for life, i prefer to only have to do water changes once a week if i can manage it lol

get a 200 gallon tank

Oh ok, yeah once a week is enough for me too. And I bought a 2" diameter hose from the Home Depot to syphon about 4-5 times faster than my python.

yeah it does drain kind of slow but my biggest tank atm is a 125 so its not that bad, and its a heck of a lot better than a frikin gravel vac and buckets:nilly: lol by the way advice to the OP if you dont have python or similar siphon equipment it is WORTH EVERY PENNY and i got mine used for like 25:D
