Short story on how I got started in this hobby. (I'm sure some of you can relate)
Summer of 2009
Ring, ring (cell phone)
Hey Jay - swing by my house, I got the BBQ going and some cold beers in the cooler!
Little did I know, there was a 280 gallon tank in my buddys garage waiting to be moved into the house.
Thanks for helping out Jay, btw I got a spare 30 gallon and filter sitting in the basement not being used. Take it. Enjoy!
And so the hobby begins
I had a fish tank growing up (7 or 8 years old), and at that time, feeding the fish and watching them eat was pretty much it. The fish would never live long nor did I ever remember doing a water change.
This time around, I took my friends advise, research, research, research and patience.
Joined the local fish forums and received a lot of good advise
So I decided to keep it simple go with plants and small fishes.
Not sure how this happens but I found myself at the local aquarium shops almost every other day haha. Bought some gravel, some plants, some test kits, lights, heaters etc.

Little did I know that planted tanks require a lot of attention and work.
Weird noises in my head started telling me to get a bigger tank. Weird huh!!?!
Im sure some members on this forum has heard those noises before.
And so the hobby continues
Now with a 90 gallon in my basement, I find myself reading and researching more and more, and decided to go even more simple, maybe a nice centre piece drift wood, smash up some slate tiles for the bottom, and done.

But before I even finish cycling the water or even introduce a fish into the tank, my wife and I spontaneously purchased a new home, with another impulse buy we had to list the house immediately for sell. Sold in 8 days for asking (WOOHOO!!!).
The 90 gallon is no more .
10 months later, I finally get the keys to my new house .
And so the hobby continues .
Decided on going with a 180 gallon in-wall tank.

2 and half months of straight renovations, the basement is finally complete.
Its time to go and bring home the 180 gallon and 75 gallon for the sump.
To be continued
