I have a RTC in my 180 gallon CA/SA mixed tank. I bought him on 3/13 when he was 3". He is now around 9". Everywhere I read in forums, or speak to people working at my lfs, that my RTC will eat my other fish sooner or later. I would like to know when I should be concerned about my other fish being dinner for my 9" RTC. I was in Big Al's the other day, and the guy working there showed me a video on his cell phone of his 20" RTC eating his 1' 6" Gar and his 1' Silver Aro. He is tying to get rid of his RTC.

Here is my stock list. And I know it is kind of heavy:

1 6” Texas
1 10” Jack Dempsey
1 9” Male Jag
1 8” Male Jag
5 Silver Dollars
1 5” Vieja Synspila
1 6” Red Tail Catfish
1 4” Paratilapia Bleekeri

1 6” Texas - Not so soon
1 10” Jack Dempsey - In 1 year
1 9” Male Jag - Not so soon
1 8” Male Jag - Not so soon
5 Silver Dollars - Very soon
1 5” Vieja Synspila - Quite soon
1 6” Red Tail Catfish - Very very unlikely (Rare)
1 4” Paratilapia Bleekeri - Soon

Very sure of my estimates, as I keep a 50 inch RTC myself... hehehe

Peace!

when they will fit in its mouth, our red runs its mouth down the side of fish as if measuring them up but she is only 18" so her tank mates are still just big enough to be left for later any that looked suitable for her lunch where moved asap

Any pics to back this up?
If it's true you must have a monster tank.

Next advice, select your favourite fish, hopefully it's the RTC, move it to a bigger bigger aquarium and you can enjoy the glory of the RTC... then move it to a pond after 2 years... hehehe

Finances for RTC, endless.... I only have 3 fishes actually, one 15 inch aba-aba, a 15 inch African lungfish and my 50 inch RTC. I moved the RTC after building 3 huge aquariums for it... and now had to build a pond for it last year.

The pond is running on 2 EHEIM Professional 3 filters and a 18 watt UV filter... :P

Not to mention all the litres of TETRA Aquasafe and Blackwater extracts I used over the last 4 years... I always ensure the black of the RTC is black and the the reds of the RTC is red!

Peace....

A few years ago I had a Red Tail Cat I grew from 2". I added him with my cichlids most were very similarly sized to the ones you listed in a similar sized tank. He started taking down tank mates one by one at around 12" so I would say you have roughly a month before things start disappearing. Although he is already big enough to take down some of the fish you listed.
