Do you add cold declhorinated water or do you let the water sit till it gets room temp. Also if you do let it sit what kind of container do you let the water sit in. (only talking around a 20% water change)

just curious :nilly:

I fill a 18gal with a capfull of prime and hand check the temp of the water from the tub and use a seperate pail to walk it back and forth to the tank as it fills.

I adjust the temp out of the tap until it feels about right then it goes right in the tank with the python, or a bucket depending on the tank. I use AquaSafe, just pour however many capfuls in the tank as it's filling. I'm switching to Prime though, takes less.

I have a vinyl hose I connect to my kitchen (or bathroom) sink and I fill the tanks up from there...

I adjust the temp at the faucet to approx 80*F...

I add the dechlorinator (Prime) to the tank directly... 1/2 dosage at the begining and 1/2 in the middle...

i usually let mine set for a few days in a clean container with a pump circulating the water. my clean container is a new 32 gallon rubbermaid garbage can. the only thing that has ever been in it is reverse osmosis water. I like to use ro water, because there is less chamicals that im putting in the tank.
You would want to get the temp as close to the temp in the tank to reduce shock. too cold of water can shock and stress them.

My water temp fluxuates so fast i wouldnt be able to use a hose. I used to have it warmer then 1 a little cooler to help it stay the same.

I bought a JBJ siphon from petco to vac & extract water. I use to save our plastic 1gal milk containers - up to 8 (= 1gal 4oz) let sit to room temp, pour in then refill each container from tap, add 1/2 spoon prime. the DIY method.

now, still use JBJ to empty tank but now use a 25' potable hose from Lowe's with faucet adapter & control flow valve to refill at tank temp. + Prime.

JBJ is one of the better easier faster vac/siphon equipment to use & filling from the tap direct makes life much easier & dryer!!

That sounds like alot of work for a water change. I just add tap water that's the same temp as my tank using a python, then immediately add prime. Not to say your way is wrong, it may be useful if your keeping delicate fish. Just a little too much for me :).

run it straight out of the faucet. dump prime in the tank while doing so....

I use straight cold water from a hose hooked to a faucet in the basement. I run it directly into the tank and add my sodium thiosulfate solution right before I turn the hose on.

When it gets to be winter time and the water coming from the cold side gets into the 50 degree range I then use warm water.

And when i do my big change once a month 80% I use warm as well.

I Have a digital thermometer on 1 of my 125g tanks and a 50-60% change using only the cold side in summer time with 80-90 degree temps out side. I get a 2-4 degree drop in temperature in my ACE barracuda tank.

Fish have no problems with slight water temp differences like this. In fact it stimulates alot of species to breed. Sort of mimics the rainy season in the amazon or so i have read.
