I bought a JBJ siphon from petco to vac & extract water. I use to save our plastic 1gal milk containers - up to 8 (= 1gal 4oz) let sit to room temp, pour in then refill each container from tap, add 1/2 spoon prime. the DIY method.

now, still use JBJ to empty tank but now use a 25' potable hose from Lowe's with faucet adapter & control flow valve to refill at tank temp. + Prime.

JBJ is one of the better easier faster vac/siphon equipment to use & filling from the tap direct makes life much easier & dryer!!

i do the milk jug thing too, its easier for me to measure gallons this way, and i can prepare them right after a water change and "age them" so they get to be room temp over the course of four days, i usually keep enough around for an emergency 50% change, and only do 10 to 20 percent changes, so some sit around a lot longer than four days.. i usually add a ml of stress coat to each gallon also before i "age" it

but what if you're water changes total 200+ gal ;)

use trash cans and measure with milk jugs? lol i like em cuz i can carry em *shrug* dump em straight in without being close to a bathroom or a water source but yeah.. 20 milk jugs is alot XD
when i had a 175 i would fill up a bathtub an hour before and after i siphoned the tank water into the sink i would turn the siphon around and suck water out of the primed room temp bathtub. our tank was right next to a bathroom though.. if i were to do that now it would take a looooong siphon

Whenever I do WC, it's straight from tap with nothing added to it. Fish seems to love it and water parameters are always pristine.

More like 60 milk jugs if you have 200 gallons of water, and do a 30% w/c.

My water temp fluxuates so fast i wouldnt be able to use a hose. I used to have it warmer then 1 a little cooler to help it stay the same.

That must make it rough to take a shower... :-S

I think the "how to do a water change" debate is often fueled by people with small tanks debating with people with large tanks (and vise versa) about methods...

A lot of things are simple with small tanks and impossible with larger tanks... and vise versa...

Yet another example of how each persons situation needs to be considered and no single answer is "the right" answer to all situations...

i fill using a hose i connect to the outside faucet.. so all cold water.. with my baby fish i do the same but let it run alot slower so the heater can help up the temp at least a little.. big fish i just let r rip..
