When you guys do a water change....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I leave mine on, but I turn them down to half flow so water doesn't splash everywhere.

You put the valve half way on the fx5? Is that ok? It wouldnt affect the filter in general ?

I just turned mine off and gave it another thorough wash then did a 30% wc. When I turned it on my fx5 after.....W O W thats some pure CLEAN wataH! I believe that is the best 160 big ones i spent for my pygos. So satisfied, I couldnt stop singing in the showers after.. ^^

Well it throttles back ur gph by restriction, it can burn out the motor, but usually only more then 1/2. I don't see why u would wanna drop ur turnover Atleast in ur case afron, with 11 pygos in a 80 u want as much as possible imo!

Glad its running clear!

I got it for the FULL POWER FLOW! I will never put that bad boy down. I want it flow flushing through my tank so my babies will love the new current. Why need a powerhead :headbang2

I only turn them down during the water change and then right back to full blast when the water touches the spray bar. I don't use an FX5 though, I use 2 of the Eheim Pro3 2075s with 2 Hydor 425s on my 125 and with income taxes next year I plan on adding another Eheim Pro3 with a Coralife TT 18w UV and 2 more Hydor circulation pumps.

I am another one who only turns the FX-5 to do filter maintenance. I can do a 30% water change on my 210 before getting to the hose connections in the tank. I have not experienced the blow back of gunk.

Yeah the blow back of gunk was caused by the output tube. I freaking scraped the shiet out of it and it was sparkly new! no more problem any more!

It prlly happened cuz the gunk dried up and of course when u run 600gph thru a 1" hose its gonna blow it out.

I dont' turn my canister filters off when doing the weekly, 50% water changes. When I clean the filters and put them back together, I attach a really fine net over the hoses so when the power is turned back on, it shoots all the particles in the net rather into the tank.
