Early this morning I heard what sounded like my cat Puck had decided to check out the dishes on the counter. Didn't get up- just yelled at him to get down (live in a one floor apartment). When I did get up I found it wasn't the dishes- it was the lid on my one 55G South American puffer tank that was broken- he had jumped 4ft over from his cat condo to the top of the tank. The glass lid hinge broken along with the one glass panes - it was in the tank. Thank God the light hood didn't fall in- stupid cat.:screwy: He must have levitated out of that tank since only one spot on his tail was wet. He has gotten up on the other tanks but this is the first time one of the lids broken- kinda surprised the glass broken. Now I need to find a lid that can support a 20lb cat when he wants to visit the fish.

Definitely go check. The other night I heard splashing from a tank other than my oscar tank. I got out of bed to check and found my pleco halfway into the hob filter. I guess something smelled good up there lol.

going back to what thlan said... is it just me or do pleco's love to jump out of the water. Mine jumped out the other day and was just hanging out in the cabinet under the tank. and no joke seriously it was 15-20 minutes later, i finally discovered him there and put him back in the tank. He luckly is still alive. My fault for leaving the hood open. stupid me..

before I moved my tanks up from my basement to my upstairs, I felt strongly that I should go down before bed and give them a snack. speaking of plecos i walked up to my 60g holding tank and there was my sailfin pleco sitting on top the tray I was using to cover the tank just staring at me. he was dry to the touch had to have been out for at least an hour it just amazed me because I can not see anyway he could fit through the space by the hob filter. put him back in and he just swam away

Common plecos (edit: Maybe it was sailfins?) breed above water in mud caves and can walk from puddle to puddle. If moist, they should be able to survive hours and hours out of water. Glad you saved him, though.
