Just go 1/4" plate glass...cheap easy and strong...;)
:iagree: this is what i have on my tank

A friend of mine has a 55 in his bedroom and when he first set it up and didn't have a lid or lights on it his cat jumped in the tank, and then he woke up just in time to see the fully soked cat jump on his girl friends face while she was still asleep. I guess its really her fault for not wanting to sleep against the wall. LOL

Early this morning I heard what sounded like my cat Puck had decided to check out the dishes on the counter. Didn't get up- just yelled at him to get down (live in a one floor apartment). When I did get up I found it wasn't the dishes- it was the lid on my one 55G South American puffer tank that was broken- he had jumped 4ft over from his cat condo to the top of the tank. The glass lid hinge broken along with the one glass panes - it was in the tank. Thank God the light hood didn't fall in- stupid cat.:screwy: He must have levitated out of that tank since only one spot on his tail was wet. He has gotten up on the other tanks but this is the first time one of the lids broken- kinda surprised the glass broken. Now I need to find a lid that can support a 20lb cat when he wants to visit the fish.

For the God's sake man, he is quite big......:eek::eek:

That is why....

Regardless of the fact my aquarium hood can support a full grown cat, I went to great lengths to ensure that my roommates cats couldn't jump on top of my 75g. Slowly, the room began to empty as I removed the chairs, bench, beer fridge. These things were >4' away from the tank. Then the cat figured out how to jump from the floor and use my Koralia magnets to get the extra couple of inches onto the tank. That's when I gave up.

People who keep indoor houseplants use toothpicks to keep cats from digging and/or peeing. Supposedly, the cats realize the danger and won't go near them. This was a tip from the petkeeper on Martha Stewart radio.

For people having trouble with this, we have 3 kittens in the house right now and we taught them to stay off aquariums by spraying them in the face with water every time they got up. It worked pretty fast. Now none of the three care. And my two adult cats wouldn't even think of climbing on top of my fish.
