Very nice silver, Happy Mud Skipper... nice bold pink color! :) Now, silvers "better" than blacks you say??... perhaps to you? but everyone has their own preference of 'keeping what' for some reason??

Perhaps Twk1 has kept silver aros before?,,, and maybe wants a black now, just to have something different?? Or maybe, because blacks don't get as large as silvers do, thus requiring more tank space?? Who knows? But for whatever reason it may be, it's his choice of what's better to him?!!

Personally, I prefer blacks over silvers, basically because of them being more uncommon... but beleive me, I do still love the looks of a broad thick healthy silver w/ a vibrant pink/green color hue to it! :headbang2
Your Absolutely Right PhullTank57   , I have kept a Silver before, but now i prefer blacks for the same reasons you do, Uncommon, Unique bluish tint to the fins, and i heard they have a lesser chance of developing Drop eyes. Everyone has their own Opinion on what types they prefer and whats better.

I thought i got lucky and found a black with this guy....most thing i thought wrong though..... I want a black so bad.

blacks seem harder to get these days i was after one for ages but nobody had any except the so called blue aros which were 4 times the price.
i think the original blacks came from brazil and as brazil are banning most fish being exported now they come from over the border and are sold for a lot more money when they can get them.
i have seen them listed on farm lists so they may be starting to breed them in asia but not on a big scale

Geez, and I was trying to sell my old black aro awhile back for the longest time... A 23inch perfect speciman w/ NO dropeye, totally CLEAN... for $100. :uhoh: And normally, you see 12" black aros retailing for $150?? :grinyes:

Try Anthony's Tropical Fish in the Buy and Sell forum, he had 8-10" black aro recently, $175, might have more.

You know whats funny? I could get 300 apiece for mine up here. I got mine at about ten inches from cichlid exchange, they were a whole saler for the pet store I was managing. I got some good stuff from them, while I was working there. A parital list would be a large Scarlet pleco(14"), sunshine titanic pleco, two large black arowanas, a xingu royal pleco, A spotted royal pleco(12"), and a large selection of different geophagus. Check them out at http://www.cichlidexchange.com/.

They are so hard to find because too many idiotes that want monsters but cant take care of them have ought these fish and let them die. The demand on them in the trade was high and now they are becoming scarce because they breed much slower than silvers....
stop buying them

I heard the same thing that the government down in Brazil was thinking of stopping or really cracking down the export of Black Aro's. I've heard this is why you don't see any baby ones anymore only larger sized ones in the trade.
