Thanks for the nice shots isde. That looks like quite a biggun in that second photo.

Yea he does look to be a nice size....I like these but the thing that always discouraged me from getting any, was how hard I've heard it is to get them off live and how skittish I heard they were.

I did have one a few years ago and wasnt really into trying to get it off of live at the time but I do remember it being annoyingly skiitish...It reminds me of my pain in the ass odoe.

My odoe was pretty out going until I put my brycon in with him lol, he was never the same after that and I ended up selling him at about a foot.

I've seen both the common Brycon species (Melanopterus and Dentex) on import lists as "Equadorian Barracudas"

Might explain some of the confusion with the common names.

Brycon's can be tough on other fish..I was actually thinking about getting maybe one or two more odoe as I remember reading that they do better in a group.I'll hold out for a nice Ace though.

Yeah, which was why I said that I should have used the latin name.A few fish seem to have the barracuda name slapped on them.

Hows your brycon doing DB? I lost my big guy at 16" in a power outtage a while back.

Hmm this is very confusing but I think I'm understanding them now. Is it legal to own the bigger species in florida?

I'm sorry..... That's huge. Must have been a tough loss.

Both of them are doing fine.... Better then the Dorado anyways.... lol

Not sure mine's that big yet, prolly only a foot or so, but has to be at least 6" tall. Has really filled out.

Krichardson- I'd highly recommend more Odoe. I seem to have great luck with them, but have never kept less then 4. I keep reading all these horror stories regarding Odoe being mean and spook easy and I just don't see it in groups. I see the bigger the group the better. I have 9 together right now and have never even seen a tattered fin aside from the one a ray got. They get along great, and seem to compete amongst eachother for food, pushing them to eat a lot. Easily doubled in size and are about 4 times the girth they were when I got them at 3-4" a few months back.

It was you,DB,who I remember posting about your odoe group...I think I might be getting the urge for setting up a toothy characin display.
