Where are you taking the hobby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know how you feel, been drawn to archers myself, specifically clouded. So what are you keeping in those 5 tanks? :D.
Let's see, in the 150 I have an Oscar, black belt, Bala sharks, a Firemouth, a convict and a pictus cat.

The 135 is my angelfish community with rummies, cardinals, Bolivian rams, Dennison barbs, some bn plecos, 2 Spotted and 1 striped Raphael cat and 3 SA bumblebees cats.

The 75 has my polleni and an angelfish who was outcast from the 135.

The 55 has 4 yellow labs, 5 synodontis luccipinnis and 2 L66 king tiger plecos.

The 20 long qt has a new resident, a clouded archer I just picked up yesterday. :-)

That 135 sounds awesome. Would love to do a nice peaceful comm one day. Really like the fact that you devoted such a big tank to it. Most of the time comm's are on a small scale

Thanks. It's probably my favorite tank to watch. It's peaceful and there is always something going on. My rams are funny to watch. And it's always a treat when my elusive raphaels and bumblebees decide to make an appearance.

You have any vids of it somewhere ?

Ha! Forgot to mention I have 2 severums in that tank also. I knew I forgot someone lol.

I've got a lot of videos on my phone. Just need to upload them to photobucket so I can post them. I'll see if I can get some up.

Sounds nice

For me it's not where the hobby is taking me, it's how deep I want to be in it. 20yrs ago I started with over a dozen tanks plus over 100 betta jars. When I was single it was okay but now with a family and 2 kids I found it to be too much and became a chore so I sold everything and left the hobby for a few hrs. 5yrs ago I just got back into it and bought a 135g and stocked it with a large group of schooling fish, a few catfish and loaches and as for the center piece my Geophagus. It's so much more enjoyable. Future plans?? Maybe a 200g upgrade for them.

I was just thinking about this today. I think this needs a bump.

Anyone went a different path than they originally thought or what's the new way your going?

I'm moving more into oddballs, refining my methods, appreciating what I have, & paying my experience forward. I especially have a fascination with puffers.

Filtration: nothing new here really just refining my methods and working on keeping a clean look to it. Really just trying to make the tedious stuff less tedious so I don't get fed up or burned out.

I really want to move to more naturalistic style setups and start using more plants.

After I read about the Belo Monte damn in Brazil destroying the unique habitat of the Xingu river, I was inspired to focus mainly on zebra plecos. I’ve been documenting and tweaking all sorts of parameters and have had some success breeding them. They just started up again now that winter is approaching.

I also have a few oddballs...schoutedeni puffers, gobies, etc but mostly L46 in hopes of keeping them going in thee hobby

After working in local fish stores for a few years and just enjoying keeping fish, I've started to feel guilty when endangered fish and rare come in and then are either purchased and promptly killed by the new owner or remain in the store for months on end. So when a pair (1:1) of Carinotetraodon irrubesco (red eye red tail puffers) came into my work, I decided I would attempt to breed them. I'm considering selling some reptiles to attempt to breed various engendered Madagascar cichldis we get in on occasion as well.

Here's to using the hobby for the betterment of the species we keep.
