WHERE CAN I BUY NATIVES???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldnt try Jonahs Aquarium simply because when I e-mailed the guy for information on rates and prices and more information on the fish he had in stock. I never got any replies or any show of interest to make a new customer. If people ignore your e-mails requesting information on your stock then you send out a pretty negative messege.

This is my personal experience on this matter, just sharing it so be careful!:irked:

When I emailed Jonah, he was pretty nice.

However, his prices and the prices of some of the sites that were mentioned here are just too high

You can save a lot of money by contacting the fish dealers directly.

The best money-saver is collecting them yourself :P

(no really, I have a permit to sell the fish I catch and when I catch something like a little 3 inch bullhead, I'd sell it for $5 whereas other places would charge above ten dollars and then slap shipping on top of that. Obviously, I don't have a farm so I can't sell them like the other places, but I think that $13 for a fish + shipping is a little much)

I agree. If you contact the names of the businesses I posted and are asked for $13 per fish I'd be stunned!

Shipping does cost money and naturally you must pay for that. Most of the suppliers I posted, only charge the actual freight and not some made up figure.

As far as collecting......I just received F. zebrinus. I did not buy them but rather traded. I would have to spend about a $200 in gas and another $100 in hotels and who knows how much in permits to get them myself.....You simply can't collect all of the fish you want and that's exactly why I posted the fine sellers I did.

Very good prices, excellent service and darn nice people to deal with.

Compared to tropical fish, that is a steal. It is all relative. You have to pay for what you can't get yourself. It also depends on what fish you are talking about. Some people go way out of their way to get fish and aren't compensated enough for it. The time, gas, water, dechlor, shipping materials, meds (if necessary) all factor in. If I can walk in my backyard, collect a bunch of fish and sell them... yeah it will be cheaper than if I have to drive an hour+ to collect few fish.

And then there is little thing called "supply and demand"?

Jonah (Mark) is a very nice guy. When I was looking for natives he was very helpful.

This is my experience and $0.02

I just noticed the Nanfa membership, for members there used to be a very nice buy/sell, is it still around?

Theres a couple of things about Jonas that I really like. 1- They have several locations they ship from. Saves you DOLLARS! 2- I ordered 3 fish and had to wait an extra week for them to be shipped:

Qty Item# Description Price Subtotals
3 Esox americanus, grass pickerel 4 packed $12.00
- 36.00

Total for merchandise -- $36.00
Packing/Shipping UPS 1 day ship -- $16.00
Total for Order -- $52.00

I got 4! Larger than expected and VERY healthy. You gotta love dealers who care about their customers. :D

The list Teleost gave is pretty much the Buy/sell...NANFA however also still has a legal Trading system apart from Buying and selling. (Selling Natives generally requires a license or permit.. Giving away fish is not Illegal in many cases)
