Excellent, welcome to MFK and welcome to the piranha community.
Regarding where you buy them, you first need to check they are legal to own, and if you need paperwork. I have no idea if where you live is covered by this or not. But if i remember rightly, released piranhas have been caught in your local water ways? So you may need paperwork?

You can squeeze 3 in a 55 gallon, but it will be a tight fit. But i recon if you have very efficient filtration you will be fine. I recon an X6 turn over is needed seeing you are slightly overstocking. Mechanical filtration is going to be a high priority.

To maximise their environment, go with a dark background and substrate, strong current, and some bogwood and a few plants. Black water extract is often used as well.

Let us know how it all goes :)

The only place I have seen piranhas is in specialty fish stores, not a petco or petsmart. if you put 6 in a 55 gallon tank that is going to be a really tight fit within a few months. How about you buy 3 so none of them die?!
I have 2 and they are kept in a 75 gallon, I wouldnt go any smaller.

ok im new and buying 10 rbp on a 55g tank =(
because some will die . but my main question is
what is they all survived and starts growing
will they kill each other? or they just wont grow to their potential size?

and will they be less agressive etc?
whats so bad?
please forgive me im a noob on this

Hmm, you’re asking some dangerous questions, but nothing a few mellow people will not answer. Basically, it would be inhumane to keep 10 in a 55 gallon. If all or most of them survive as they grow, they would be living in a life worst than death to be honest.

All of their combine bioload will be more than nearly any filtration could cope with, so they would be swimming in their waste. And that disregards how messy piranhas are. Just three piranhas can kick up loads of mess while eating, so 10 can be extremely messy. So that just adds to all the waste and toxins in the water already.

On top of swimming in inadequate water, every time they turn round they will bump into another. Piranhas like their space and a small mark of territory to claim their own. With so many piranhas in such a small tank, none of them will have anywhere to run or hide from more aggressive ones either.

Fact of the matter is, 10 in a 55 gallon is cruel and inhumane. In fact 6 in a 55 gallon is still not right. As said, 3 at the very most. If you want more piranhas, get a bigger tank. To many times have I seen novice piranha keepers get greedy and kept to many piranhas to a tank. It ends up as a cruel disaster, and an expensive disaster at that where they receive no sympathy for not taking experienced peoples advice.

even if its 10 dimesized p's in 55 gal? thats inhumane? hmmmm...
my friends @ pfury told me i can do that... grow em out and select the nicest p's that can stay.

While young piranhas growing over an inch a month if well looked after, it would not be humane for long. You would have 2 months at the most before things got very messy (and that is if you buy them very very small). Why buy 10 when you have to find new homes for 7 after 2 months? Buying one or two more than recommended for the tank is fine in case of mishaps, but 10, geez? And how would you propose picking the 3 nicest out of 10, when they are still young and undeveloped anyway? At 2-3 inches they show few signs of their mature selves, so it would be pretty hard to pick the nicest piranhas…
Just my little input there, no flaming or picking meant HiGhTiMeZ.
