where can i find a 6 foot long 80 gallon aquarium and is it even worth it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Runitis i didn't know they came in 6ft lengths my lfs must only get the 5ft ones in.

Skjl47 no i don't own the place which is why im putting in so much thought about. I did take into consideration all the stuff i have in my room the two heaviest things are my bed and dresser which together weigh around a few hundred pounds atleast the rest is fairly light which im not worried about. reinforcing the joists are out of the question. If i was too get another tank 80 or bigger id get rid of one or both of the ones i have already. I have thought about getting rid of my overly heavy bed frame and just keep the box spring and mattress to lighten the load on the floor (ultimate fish nerd haha if you saw the thread you'll know what im talking about) i only have a convict in the 40 so if i can combine 1 convict 2 green terrors and 1 festae in a 125 then id get rid of both the 40 and 55 gallon i have now. The festae i don't mind getting rid of if it gets too aggressive in the 125 they are currently growing up together so that should lessen the aggression some

this size was offered by either AGA or Perfecto as recently as the late 90s/early 2000s. we used to call them "stretch 55s". we'd see them in wholesaler catalogs but never actually in person. I had always planned to get one to put behind my couch and a regular 55 behind my loveseat, but life happened and I never got around to it. now I am getting back into it and am finding that the aquarium i had always planned to own is no longer being manufactured. thus bringing me to this forum / thread, which is pretty old, but i hope you found the tank and i hope i can find one too.

Old Floor capacity post from 2013

Hello; A rough estimate for a large tank might be 10 to 12+ pounds per gallon. This can vary with the type of stand and the stuff you put in the tank. So you may be looking at 2200 to 2640 pounds or more

Here is the web address of an article that talks about the issue.

My take is that the question can only be answered by someone with knowledge of structure actually having a look to see what you have and what condition it is in. There have been posts (a link follows) describing damage from tanks from time to time, so it does happen.

In case some missed this thread a while back here is a link to it. A look at the pictures should give pause, they did for me.

The tank was AGA awesome tank I have only seen 1. And wanted one myself by tje time I got the funds it was gone. Lrobably the hardest tank to find any where. Saw 1 for sale several years back and was scooped up quick. I keep the hunt alive but don't think I'll ever find one. Easier to find a 55 gallon metaframe happy hunting

I would just opt for the 125. You can find one of those cheaper than the custom job youre talkin and your fish will love it.

Edit: who keeps reviving these 5, 10 year old threads? Stop it!
