I have been looking for a moon light fixture for my tank and have seen a few on ebay. They are priced pretty good, but I dont have an account with them and I dont want to pay shipping and wait for it. Today I checked my local petco and they dont carry them. Does anyone know of a pet store chain that carries these?

I use neon tubes like what you would find under a car. I've also seen people use LED comptuter case lights. both would work well....I like the neon. never used an LED one.

I would think LED's would be too focused to spred light over the whole tank. I dont want to buy a whole new light fixture though for my 48" wide tank. What type of bulbs would be best to put in it though, just some blue ones?

When i did mine i kept the bulbs the same and just layed the neon tube on top of the tank

what about a black light? Would that work? I have very little neon green gravel mixed with my black so it would look pretty cool. is it ok for the fish though?

I've heard that a blacklight will stress the fish and promote algae growth...dont know from first hand experience though. Never tried it

ok I will search around and see what I can find out about it. thanks again.

I dont want something that sticks out of the top of my tank. And unless that costs under $20 it is not cheaper than what I just saw at the specialty store near my house.

I think it was 15 bucks, anyways it has 24 LED lights, and usually it doesnt bother me when I sleep, but my GF will put a shirt or something on it.
