Go the car neon option! I just went to my local auto parts shop, bought a 12" blue neon light($15) that plugs into the cigarette lighter of a car, then bought a 12V DC transformer from the electronics joint next door($15), and it works great! You can just rest it on the cover glass or fix it to an existing hood/light fitting and it works just as well as one of the purpose made ones.
