In the UK hoplo cats are quite common, many garden centres up North selling various types, including the newly seen albino variety but if you are in the US this won't help you. Great fish, generally available at 1.5 to 2 inch and can keep a group of five in a 4ft 50 gal tank and could even expect to breed them. Buy an odd number and the chances of getting a pair would be good. They are a long lived fish with 10 years being common. Females are stockier, however males are easy to spot with thick rays to the leading edge of the pectoral fins which turn redder at breeding readiness.
you could breed a pair in a 20 gal tank but I would look a bit bigger for lifetime health and wellbeing.
air breather so obviously don't keep too tight a lid as they do visit the surface a lot. Peacefull, friendly shoaler who also go their own way alot, hardly ever hiding in pipes.
