My question would be, do you really want a Hingeback? Outgoing for a Hingeback is nothing like outgoing for a Sulcata or Redfoot............

Good question,I want a tortoise and am in the process of researching what I might get.I cant do the sulcata do to space issues and I'm aware that we are talking quite some time before they require large ammounts of space but I would hate to get one, grow attached and become faced with having to get rid of it.The redfoot may be doable.:)

I hear a lot of hingbacks are wild caught,
Hopefully someone breeds them.I will check out the links that Shells n Scales provided, thanks

You don't want a Hingeback then. They are very shy, secretive animals. It takes years for them to get to the point of not drawing up when they see you. Matter of fact, the people that do well with them are the ones that forget they even have them. They are unique Tortoises, but they arent for 95% of the general herping public. I have seen exceptions, but as a general rule, they arent going to be suited for what you want..........

My favorite turtle so far has been the Diamond Back Terrapin and that is due to their responsiveness. You may be right about me and the hingeback and I will consider another tortoise.

Also, Want a tortoise with personality? Get a Cherryhead redfoot tortoise.
They stay fairly small compared to other tortoises. And when I got my hatchling it took him a couple days to warm up to me. Hes now a year old and I let him go outside and will follow me around wanting snacks or always greeting me when i walk near his tub.

Great lil tortoises
Gorgeous to
