I bought a glass tank out of the local classifieds for $50. I measured it and apparetly its a 50g tank. The only problem is that it is just glass. It has no plastic lip like the "all-glass" aquariums. For the past year it has had a thin piece of wood on it but it is getting raggedy.
What is my best option?

1. Go to hardware store and buy plexiglass to fit.

2. buy a hood/light. (but from where?)

Order a new rim from a dealer online. I got mine from pets warehouse, it took forever to get here though like 2 or 3 weeks, but it was packaged perfectly and looks great.

I have a 225 wide and the canopy that came with is junk, so i took a peice of lexan and some stainless hinges and silconed the hinges on the back of the eurobrace and came to the center of the tank with the peice of lexan and put some more hinges with pop rivets and made my own hood, my light hangs from the ceiling. Hope this helps.

one question, does the tank have a center brace running from front to back or not.

nope, no bracing anywhere

well make sure that you find a top kit with the center brace, it is a very important part of the tank, it may hold water for a while without it, but not for long. if you cannot find the bracing for the top, get a piece of glass cut about 6" wide and whatever distance from front to back, i'm guessing that it's 12", and silicone it in.

I did build some trim to fit around it. I never considered it to be bracing but I guess it works. It is nailed together and fits tightly on all sides and I siliconed it in place. The tank has been this way for a year now. No problems so far(knock on wood). Heres a picture...
