Hi every one

new to this part of the site

but has been in the salt water over 30 years,, mostly reefs.

I am adding a shark pond to my system.... 11.5' x 6' x 2.5' tall flat bottom

1000gal

I have already three 100 gal tank full of live rock (reefs) in my house plumed to one central station running for over two years. I will be add filtration from the pond but will let the reefs take care of the bio system...

I was hoping to put two bonnethead pups, a couple of Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks , and one small black tip.....

any leads of where I can get my list on sharks :)or please pm me.....

I am in CA...

Well first off your system is way to small for any of those specimens you listed. Those specimens needs systems of around 20,000 gallons given the appropriate dimensions. Also you will not find any of those specimens besides maybe the Black Tip online. With your system I would recommend Brown Banded Bamboos, Epaulettes, ect. Stay away from any very active Sharks.

I definitely have to agree with Brenden here. Blacktip Reefs, on average, will reach about 5-6' in length. Bonnetheads, about 4-5'. And Atlantic Sharpnoses, about 3-4', but they are so active, they need just as much room as a Blacktip or Bonnethead would. Imagine those beasts in your size pond, not a very pretty sight huh?

Yeah - I know of some online dealers that can get these three species.

But I have to completely agree wuth Brenden & Chad. Your pond - as nice as it is - is simply way too small for even juveniles of each of the Species.

Also at present Bonnetheads and Sharpnoses aren't available thru dealers, as they are only available from the months of May thru to October. Also getting Atlantic Sharpnose to California can be very difficult on the sharks.

While the Blacktip Reefs and Bonnetheads can be kept as a single shark - The Atlantic Sharpnose - can't. The Atlantic Sharpnose is at present time only known to survive in captivity (for more than a few months) - if they are kept in a very large pond (at least 20,000 gallons) and a small group of at least 3-4 Atlantic Sharpnose.

To keep any of these species - you will need to build a much larger pond or consider against keeping these sharks. And stick with a smaller more aquaria friendly species such as Eppies, Bamboos, Horns, or Catsharks.

Pond... you need a fricking lake for those sharks.

Actually - you don't need a Lake to keep Blacktip Reefs, Bonnethead & Atlantic Sharpnose sharks.

I've heard of people that have successfully (more than 3 years) kept a couple of Blacktip reefs, a couple of Bonnetheads and a small group(3-5) of Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks all together in a large(about 35,000-40,000 gallons) in-ground Shark lagoon.

So it can be done - just takes a enough room and money to build a nice large shark lagoon.

Murten
