Where do yall buy your big tanks???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depends on what you mean by big, some people consider 100-200 gallons big.
I usually got those from Craigs when I lived in the US.
The biggest problem I have with tall tanks, is the difficulty and/or inability to reach far enough to keep the lower front glass clean, even a 3ft tall tank presents a problem. And many species kept in aquariums don't need tons of depth.
Depth also can present strength problem, google an article by Willam Heijns about his 1000 gal cichlid tank exploding.
Of course if the tank is large enough, and well built enough to get into with SCUBA gear on, then no biggie.
I prefer a tall tank gor viewing, also allows for different species that occupy different elevations in the water colum

Ive been doing aome looking around online, and it looks like fish tanks direct might be my best option. Looking for a 600 to 700 gallon tank. Whats everyones thoughts or experiences with big tank purchases.
Thanks in advance folks, i greatlt appreciate the help.

Is it safe to assume you want acrylic and new? For that with custom dimensions you described, I'd go with Midwest Customs given the experiences of others on this site and what I've read and seen of their work online. I have not used them, but putting myself in your situation, they would be a likely option for me.

I'm almost 100% going to order my new tank (probably 300 gal) from midwest. I just need to get off my butt and design the stand in Solidworks/run a stress analysis.

As far as tank maintenance on a tall tank, Our tank is an in wall tank, so we have a platform behind the tank to access the top of the tank. This car cleaning brush will allow me to access the front and sides of the tank while standing on the platform.
