I have a non-treated very large piece of Manzanita. If you want to PM me let me know ?
I was like “damn, he is right”…but then you had to mention the lemonade stand!Surfer dude! What a business opportunity for you!
You live somewhere that gives you access to that wonderful Manzanita wood. You're also surrounded by a high percentage of city people who apparently buy everything...even rocks and driftwood.
Collect it, clean it off (maybe invest in a pressure washer), list it on here with pics of individual pieces, and start raking in the dough! The population density in your area is high enough that you probably won't need to worry about shipping, just do local business.
I can see it now: you, sitting at a little lemonade-stand-type table in your parents' front yard, a hand-lettered sign advertising "Driftwud For Sale", your golden locks flowing in the soft California breeze, that weird little dog sitting at your side...
All joking aside, you have access to free advertising here, geared to your target market. If you have somewhere to store some nice pieces and then list them here, you could make some part-time cash.

The problem would be that I couldn’t actually ‘farm’ manzanita in a way because the larger ones (Big Berry Manzanita) are rare, and it’s tough to find one close to civilization! Also the fact that Manzanita doesn’t get that big, so large manzanita is rare. I will definitely take some next time I’m up in idywild. It’s illegal to harvest live manzanita, and certain species of manzanita, so harvesting could be a pain. Not to mention how I’m supposed to cure it! I would need to soak it in water, and I don’t have anything large that could hold water over a 30” square and 18” tall metal tin.I didn't actually have to...I just wanted to!
But forget the joking part; you could absolutely do this, with little or no overhead costs, and could spend as much or as little time on it as you wish. Not many business opportunities allow that. It might even be fun.![]()
