Where do you get your earthworms ?

I culture red wiggler worms (google it). They're like earthworms, except a bit smaller, don't require cooling and eat veggies (i.e. kitchen waste like corn cobs, wilted lettuce, junk mail, etc.)

Search Craigslist (or online) for composting worms or red wigglers and you can buy them by the pound. I got mine from these guys: http://www.veterancompost.com/

I have a rubbermaid bin of them in my garage that's been going for a couple of years and supplies more than enough worms for my 50+ tank fishroom.

Can't imagine buying worms every week... or getting them from Wal-Mart!

18g tub. Actually 2 nested (inner one has a cover and small holes in the bottom so that liquid can drain).

Culturing red wigglers (or composting worms) is super easy. I literally just keep a bin of them in the garage (year round) and drop in veggie waste when instead of throwing it in the trash.

I haven't bought live or frozen food in years.

I have a worm bin as well and it's awesome! Like Matt said I just feed them veggie scraps and junk mail, and surprisingly it doesn't smell and I have plenty food for my 5 tanks.

This sounds awesome. (i.e. keeping a bin) I have been wondering about this for a while and thought I would need to keep a huge 55g barrel outside on a turner type set up. I mean to rotate the barrel. Now I am seeing that it may be much easier. It is raining here and I went out and collected a bunch on worms from the driveway. I put them in some tank water and was wondering about feeding them... as it is quite a few for my young CA tank (about 15 fish <=3.5") I didn't want to feed them all and was considering how to save them. Now I think I will start up a bin.
I thought I read somewhere to cut off the heads? Any credence in this?
