Where does hoplias malabaricus Come from?

hes asking how he should dedicate the tank for the mala.
he wants to know what the ph should be etc.
so its worth a try asking the lfs where it came from if he really wants to dedicate it to be exactly like where the mala came from.

And maybe the species we call for malabaricus are more than 1?
Possible that the malabaricus is a "group"?
I have seen a lot of pictures of malabaricus from northern South America and they are very different from ours (Uruguay-Argentina).
