I was just wondering for those who have seen there ray give birth, where in thier aquarium did it happen. I have an open tank with no decorations and she chose to go into a corner to birth. Did she choose that place because she felt it was the safest? Not sure. For people with driftwood or plants has thier ray gave birth beside them? When there in the wild do they birth in a safe place or just wherever?

I've missed my pups being born, twice by a short time. I think keepinfish has some video of his female giving birth, and if I remember one was born in the back corner of the tank.

i didnt see mine give birth last time, but i really dont think they have a choice, when you watch franks video on his website she is all over the tank. Maybe in the wild if they know something is going to happen they would find a good place to go but in the tank, its kinda hard

seen mine give birth twice. She swims around trying to stay off the bottom and the pups usually go for the top of the water.

awsome... i have a camera set up for mine, she is sopose to give birth any day. As i go to class i turn it on in case i miss it.

mine gave birth in a pond... she did ask for a suite the next time at ceasars palace though...

sorry couldnt resist

i think in home aquariums the tanks are too small for them to be choosy on where they are going to have them. My male dictates where she is going to have them. One time it was toward the back of the tank, the next was in the middle of the column of water.

GL, this is interesting, as i am afraid my male would kill the pup, i was fortunate enough to see both births and video them. see my sig for those vid's. I removed the pups within a few minutes.

but from what i was told it was around mid level in the pond...one day ill get to witness it

I've seen it. The ray usually swims around mid level while spitting pups out. Put some drift wood in there. Pups usually look for a safe hiding place as soon as they are born. I've noticed they stress out when they have no shelter. Good luck.
