i really dont think they have a choice

i think in home aquariums the tanks are too small for them to be choosy on where they are going to have them.

In addition I think the stress of giving birth over rides their ability to pick and chose where they want to be. When they come its kinda like screaming out "INCOMING!"

Its not incoming, its instinct. Any animal/fish/whatever will give its young the best chance to live by instinct and will adapt to its surroundings after time. How many wild cichlids have eggs on glass in the wild. But they will in a aquarium to protect them.
