He finally came out!!! I turned off the lights dropped some food in. Came back in the room a few mins later, and there he was! As soon as the light hit though , he swam for cover. How do I get him to stay out?

do it with the lights off.. some spineys can take a long time to adjust to you. patience and persistance. digging around in the tank looking for him is only going to stress him out and encourage the hiding.

I totally agree. They feel more comfortable when there's lots of hiding spots and will come out more. There's like 8 hiding spots for my 2 tire tracks and they come out all the time. How long have you had it?
