in my 75 i have two fluval 404 and the inlets are about 1 1/2 inches of the bottom is this ok ive seen no probs so far

12 Volt... I've kept tanks for a lot of years and have never even thought of that issue much less have I seen it happen... but now that you mention it I'm going to worry like hell... thanks ;)

Poking a hole in the inlet toward the top, but below the waterline, would cure this... and I'll probably be doing that before I go to bed... lol

I keep mine as low as possible, but up plenty high enough to avoid sucking in sand...

the only reason I think about that issue is that it happened to a fish friend of mine back in 1999. an old fluval 403 series output came off and drained his 100 gallon tank onto his floor..the water went down to the apartment underneath him too...

ever since then its in the back of my mind...and I LOVE canisters too...:)

There was a recent post about how to secure the filter return on a tank with big fish... I use hose clamps as I've considered the hoses coming loose... but I've not considered the returns being pushed out by big fish, even though I have a few fish that are big enough / strong enough to do so... if angles were just right.

After reading that post I moved some things around to secure them... I poked holes in two intake tubes since my last post... lol

It doesn't matter how long you've kept fish... there's always new stuff in these forums waiting to be learned ;)

Thanks man...

Yup... that sounds like your post. I'm terrible at not paying attention to who is saying what in a thread. But I find it easier to hot hold things against people that way so it works for me ;)

I also have two canister returns on my 125 gal... after reading your post/thread I tucked one behind an CA inlet... and used a brick on top of the tank to weigh the other down...

Joe... I hope you are satisified with the responses thus far on your original question. I hate it when people take a thread off course, so I hope we have built on your original topic and not taken away from it. Don't hesitate to put us back on track if you want more replies to your original question.
