Where to buy and how to safely put rocks in a cichlid tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FAT Daddy, I'm in Anaheim and I got my rocks from Thompson http://www.thompsonbldg.com/ in Orange. I picked up ~130 lbs of 'Baja Cresta' rock for 12 cent a pound. Very good price. It's more than enough for my 75G tank. I got some pictures of how it looks like and closeup. Call them and ask if they got river rocks. Personally I'm not a fan of it because it's hard to stack.

+1 for the eggcrate.

thas a nice tank, is that background cement covered styrofoam?

As long as the rocks go in before the sand you shouldn't worry about the weight of the rocks, check out this video:

Okay I may or may not use eggcrate but I'll post pics of the setting up process, after I get some fish ya'll have to help me identify the fishies.
fishay fiShaY thanks for posting

Fizzing usually means the rock can change your water parameters around. From my understanding it's not the most accurate way but its supposed to test for calcium carbonate (it can affect your water chemistry, its not the worst for cichlids but you don't want to raise your levels super high either) and supposedly it also tells you if the rock is leaching metallic substances..

I don't know how accurate it is but its the only way I know of to run a simple and easy to do test to determine if the rock is aquarium safe or not so I go with it.
