Where to buy driftwood in bulk?

Don’t buy it from aquarium stores. This may sound stupid, but most of this is not even drift wood. It is just authentic peaces cut from a tree, and when placed in the tank, it will release huge amounts of tannins. If it was drift wood, this would not happen, as the tannins would already have been lost as it would have been in water for a long time. Bog wood, also usually cur from a tree.

Huh, good ideas. By the case! I need to sell some of the things I have posted in the classifieds, then get some driftwood.

Is the Malaysian wood like mopani, resistant to rot / sludge build-up?

It's probably not as resistant as mopani, but Malaysian pieces are known to last 20+ years submerged under water. I've had most of mine for about 4 years and there is no sign of rotting. It does leach plenty of tannins, so it will need to be boiled for 12+ hours to get some of it out. I prefer Malaysian because it fits my fish better and looks more natural in my tank.

If you have fish that hang at the surface and like bright lighting, then mopani would be a good choice. If you have fish that like shade and darkness, then Malaysian is a better choice.

i found a really nice place to get driftwood, found it totally by accident. There is a Taxedermy place in my town, and they had a whole yard of driftwood that they use for hanging taxedermy fish on, and other animals. I asked if they would sell their wood, and they said sure. I was buying 3 big pieces for 13$ total. Ive always found the best kinds at places i wouldnt have assumed had driftwood.
