Where to buy filter socks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe I need a bigger sock. This 4" 55 micron clogs in under 12hrs. Probably 6 hrs which is a little crazy considering my tank water is always clear even before this.....

The pool bag guy emailed me back, he has no idea on the micron rating, so Ill have to do a little research on that when I get back from the gym.

This 55 is ridiculous. Iv got it timed, 3 hrs it needs to be cleaned. I cant keep up, its worse than the cartridge filter. I work so needless to say the tank isnt any cleaner.

Would a 100micron be better? Or need I say..........a 200?:(

Are you sure it's clean when you rinse it off? It may look clean, but could still be clogged up. Throw it in the washer, no soap. I have dual 25 micron socks flowing 1000gph and they last about a week. Either that or you have some extremely dirty water and they are still pulling all the crud out.

Mebbe a 7" x 16" would be a better choice, that 4" sock ain't cutting it.

Every tank system will be different but for example I am getting two days onna 50 micron, 3+ onna 100 and 4+ onna 210G with 2000gph flowing thru one 7" sock with my feeding habits.

Honestly my washing includes hot water being hit with hard spray for a minute :)

So throw it in the washing machine on which cycle mode? 10min? Yank it out and walla?

My waters not even dirty. Even dirty after a 70% water change it plugs. Ill throw it in the washer before bed and hope all goes well.

Nope its time to either run 4-6 socks at one time, or get a giant mesh sheet. Do they sell perhaps a 24x24 sheet of nylon mesh? or maybe 36x36?

I just realized you are running a mesh sock. This is the whole problem - a mesh is clogged as soon as the surface is covered in particles. A felt sock has many layers of fibers to trap debris and can hold a lot more waste before clogging.

Switch to a 7" felt sock and you will be going a week or more between washing.
