i like marco rocks bc the shipping is included.
do i really need live rock for a salt pred tank?

You don't need live rock in your tank, but it's really beneficial because it's a natural filtration system and will simulate your fishes natural environment which will reduce stress.. Plus it looks good.. What are your reasons for not wanting live rock?

I agree. There is nothing wrong with dry rock but I think it a good idea to add some live.

Most people buy dry rock for 2 reasons. Cheaper and no unwanted hitchhikers. 1 thing I like about dry rock is u can take your time aquascaping with no water in the tank

I haven't used dry rock but it's also a bonus that it's alot cheaper.. I would def mix dry with live.. You can dip your new live rock in high salinity walter for a couple of minutes to get rid of "some" not all hitchhikers..

i just dont want to spend a fortune and i only want a few big pieces so my fish have more swimming room. i will have a full fuge in my sump that will have alot of rubble and macro algea for natural filtration.
and another thing about marco rocks is that its precured.
has anyone ordered sand from them?

yea no joke i just set up a 30 bio cube for my girlfriends mom and it cost 150 just to put enough in there to make it look decent.

look on craigslist.org, i usually find deals anywhere from $0.50-$2.00/lb.

you need at least one piece of live rock to seed the dry rock but then again this will take months. when setting up large tanks (100g+), people usually do 50% of live rock and 50% of dry rock to save on some cost.

good luck!
