Either way, I wouldn't trust a sight that said you can keep a Leopard Shark in a 400 gal tank... it's just too small. I don't understand why these idiots aren't just ****ing honest. In the long run, honesty will serve you and you will get return customers and make more money. Seems like these suppliers are in it for a 'quick buck', it's just wrong.
some are very reputable, but i think the answer your seeking is that they just post very basic info based on adult size, not too much consideration to it. as long as they present it well, people buy it.

I don't even think it's presented well. Anybody with half a brain would feel much safer buying from a website which posts detailed information rather than 'very basic info'. It doesn't only show that they actually know what they're talking about (which would mean that the animals you were buying are looked after correctly and more likely to be healthy), it would also exhibit a level of trust between the buyer and the seller, which for me, is incredibly important.

i agree. but what i meant by presenting it well, is catering to what the buyer wants to see and hear, giving the illusion that they have the space for that fish. that grabs alot of customers

Well - anytime some quotes inaccurate sources - it's hard to have any credibility - especially if your a site that sells stuff.

Species misidentification is really inexcussable. The misquoting of "tank sizes" is at least easier to understand, since they are quoting a printed source.

but i read on sites like liveaquaria.com, they give correct adult sizes, feeding habits, decor ideas, and etc. although tank size may not be correct, most if not all their other information is correct.

IMO, anyone selling something as unique as sharks has no excuse to not give correct information. Pet sharks are VERY specialist, so surely the dealers should be even more so. It's unfortunate, I guess. It's a good job we have sites like MFK to give REAL information to the people who are buying these animals. But one or two buyers will always slip through the net and be misinformed, and that's when the animals suffer. We see it all the time at big pet stores too. Although not usually with sharks.

It makes for interesting discussion, anyway :)

Off to bed, 4:45am here! Goodnight!
