im trying to buy worms in bulk, also im not sure which one i should get.

Are black worms too small for adult (10''+) rays?

does anyone try to breed their own worms?

When i was feeding Nightcrawlers i just bought them at WallMart, they're only like 3 bucks for 2or3 dozen.. I can't remember exactly how many are in the containter.. I thought about the whole breeding thing but i'd just rather buy them than try and breed and grow them out to feeding size.

Id have to agree. i tryed the breeding thing and it was more of a mess than anything. If you do good luck.

does anyone use red wigglers?

i think it takes 3 months to breed, i think i would deplete the worms before they are able to breed

i wouldnt bother breeding. try to find a worm farm or ranch near by. ask bait shops and find some nice fat worms. wal mart has $3 for 20 but they arent the best looking worms. i go to the worm ranch and buy them for 2.50 for 12. they are alot fatter and they last longer in the fridge. walmarts usually die off very soon as the worm ranch ones last me weeks. so you have to think about what one you would be losing more money with in the long run and for me thats definately wal mart.

and red wigglers dont have enough nutrition for those rays they need bigger things. try cut up tilapia or shrimp also as that lasts a long time and can buy in bulk.

I have a colony of red wigglers going for about 2 years now.Got about 1000 worms for free from a bait dealer at the end of the season.peat moss keep it moist but not wet.Keep a light on it at all times or they will get out.I feed them vegetable scraps and chicken feed(laying mash).
2 40g rubbermaid tubs with 6" of peat moss produces enough to feed at least a dozen worms a week and not put a dent in the population.I could probably pull more if I wanted.

Funny thing, this was the ad at the top of the page when I clocked on this thread: http://www.unclejimswormfarm.com/ I assume they are a sponsor of the site. For what it's worth, I go the Walmart route also. They last a couple weeks easy in my fridge.
