hey guys/girls.

to get to the point, i just want to know where abouts i can find some hibernating tree frogs, frogs, salamanders, etc. in my area.

wood piles, leaf piles, compost piles? where?

thanks in advance:D

i find frogs and salamanders (and occasional snake) mostly under logs or other pieces of wood.

i have no where to house them at this time, so it will be just to look. however, in the future, i shall be checking out the laws and restrictions that have to do with collecting and keeping wild animals.:D

would hate to lift up a peice of wood and it turn out to be a cotton mouth, or rattle snake :screwy:.

be careful either way, we dont wana loose a mfker.

Miami is a little different LOL In Canada I am sure they get pretty well holed up in the middle of dead logs or deep underneath our feet. It is a BAD idea to disturb hibernating animals as it throws their bodies into shock, or causes undue stress. Not to mention the temp change, etc.

Why disturb them? Its true what santoury says. And why collect them like that? You can buy nearly anything CB, and native species are usually reasonably priced. Thats IF you can keep them.

i just did a quick check, and so far it looks like it is legal to keep wild animals in ontario. as far as buying them, i have never seen a grey tree frog or red backed salamander in any petshops around here;)
