where to get ATF ??

In the venders section under Rare Fish has the cheapest gatf and vatf for sale. Rt 4 aquarium has fatf for sale, the cheapest ATF I've seen so far. He had them for 80$ a piece but prices may have increased.

Oceanstateaquatics also had gatf but may have ran out of stock.

I've purchased all my fish from those three stores and had the greatest experience.

I can never get a hold of Nicole at aqua scape so I could never buy fish from them.

Everyone else has great communication though.

I've also purchased fish from a user on eBay named toyzforboyzinc he has some ATF as well but a bit pricey.

I know where you're coming from. Mine has a very unusual look as well. However, I still feel that its just individual variation and health. There are three different genetic races, but they all live side by side and are functionally identical.

You have your fish living in a heavy current environment, right? I know for the longest time most members didn't keep them in really heavy current which seems to have resulted in the old 'normal' appearance that we're used to. Fish like yours and mine that are longer are actually closer to correct when you compare them to wild caught specimens. In the wild, even small GATF live in ridiculously powerful currents which are hard to replicate in our glass boxes. The old type that has the thick, short body with wide tails seems to be an artifact of low current.

Just my thoughts on the subject anyhoo.

For the ways in which they are different from other species, please reference the ID thread in the stickies. It goes into much greater detail than is feasable to do here.

As for the three races, most people don't know that fact because unless you're a science nerd like me, it makes no difference. The genetic variation is extremely shallow and is based more on the stretch of the Congo in which a fish lives than the colors or other traits that it might show.

IMO, getting one from Wes is your best bet. He has world class customer service and some of the best prices around. He will be getting vittatus and goliath soon.

Never have had a problem with aquascape. Wes has great fish and mike at rt 4 normal had them and he is easy to work with.
