I haven't seen any in the lfs here, But there in the rivers in central Florida...Rainbow River at the head springs is a beautiful place to start (and vacation ).
Check with CHOMPERS, he lives near Orlando and may have some better ideas.
Right, I know they are a fairly common native fish...I meant does anyone know where they can be bought. I'm looking for a couple larger individuals for a zoo exhibit. I've found one place online that sells them, but only very small animals.
put out some trot lines baited with chicken hearts or beef melt in a shallow weedy area of a lake near you. if they are there you will catch one.
i know here in Louisiana choupique are found in greatest number in shallow swampy areas with lots of trees and higher acidity levels. they like the same type of habitat and water as gogle-eyes(warmouth). if you know of a lake with a bunch of gogle-eyes it is a safe bet that you will find some choupique.
