Where to get some Black plastic Mesh...

Detrius removal aside, how big are the fish your keeping in there? I have some pond netting that has ~3/8-7/16" holes that if glued down allow now fish entry if monster enough...
I use it to keep my fish out of the overflow, before I added a sponge to it.
Use suction cups to add your background, that way you ca remove and reinstall every 6 months.

To cover a few holes on my 3d background i used some screen for windows from home depot, it was cheap and im sure its available most hardware stores.

I actually went to Michaels arts and craafts store and spent 2 dollars on 4 sheets of mesh. 2 Brown and 2 Black. Ended up using the gutter guard though...
