are they illegal to import?

Not illegal to import, just to export out of thailand.

I saw a 6" selling in a LFS around here bout 6 months ago. Went to go buy it and someone else from this site beat me to the punch

although Thailand jst near (very near) to my contry, i cant find any juv ST widebar in my country too.

Yet,
i was told by many owners of LFS, thy said Thailand dint export any of their ST widebar to others country round 2++ years.
