Where to put the hole in sump?

^^ what he said. The elbow is inside the sump and any excess water flows into it and out the drain. The main point being its very open and won't clog plus it'll handle whatever excess flows into my tank without adjusting any valves.

Was out of town for 12 days and not a single worry.

Here's a pic of my sumps drain. Like everyone else said go as low as possible on your hole then put a 90 in and extend with a small piece of PVC. I adjusted the height of my drain a couple times until I was happy. I don't glue the PVC so the adjustment is easy, I just pull the pipe out, cut it, reinstall
